Learning Outcomes

Anchor 1

SLO-B

Describe the social nature of composing, particularly the role of discourse communities at the local, national, and international level. SLO B fits right in with my proposal because the only ones that are being affected by this traffic congestion is the discourse community of Los Lunas. Other towns may have their problems but none of them are exactly like Los Lunas nor is there problem exactly the same.  Los Lunas is a little town that only has one street in and out of it and this is causing huge problems. By constructing this new interchange it will only help the community of Los Lunas with the problem they are facing. This is dealing with a discourse community on a local level. Another way that my proposal is particularly for Los Lunas is the fact of where the interchange would be placed. Alongside with Morris road, which will be used as a frontage road. Other town may not have this opportunity to have an already existing road as a frontage road to a new interchange.

SLO-A

Analyze, compose, and reflect on arguments in a variety of genres, considering the strategies, claims, evidence, and various mediums and technologies that are appropriate to the rhetorical situation. In this project I believe that SLO A is the perfect learning outcome. I believe this because we had to do everything that the definition says in this proposal. I had to compose my own argument which was, there is only one way in and out of Los Lunas and that is the main road. Because of this there is congestion and the only way to get rid the this traffic is by making a new road through Los Lunas. I had to strategies on how I was going to make this solution work. What my step by step plans were and how I was going to communicate my argument to my audience. I provided evidence to support my argument and explain why this proposal should take place. With all thing information for my argument I was able to turn it into a narrative power point which I have never experienced doing before.

SLO- C

For project 1 I had to work through the writing process in order to get this assignment to turn out like I wanted it to. First I had to plan on what I wanted my project 1 to look like  and with that I was able to pick what medium I would use to make the most of my analyses. I chose to do a blog and I wanted it to really look like a blog so what I did was make sure the paragraphs where short so I didn't lose my audience . I also knew I need subtitles and bullet point to break down the blog and make it easier to read and I did just that.  After my planning I did a lot of research and reading of my short story. I picked apart the story and the film and then compared the two, finding the differences and the similarities between the two.  I collaborated by doing peer review and IA review which helped a whole lot! Getting feedback on what I could do better or what I could change so that I could really draw in my audience (like shorting my paragraphs so that my audience doesn't drift away).

SLO-D

Improve your fluency in the dialect of Standardized Written American English at the level of the sentence, paragraph, and document. With this SLO, I believe that I worked on this outcome on everything I did throughout this course. From all of our projects to the discussion board and weekly journal.  All of this work has helped me with my fluency in my dialect. With each and every one of these project I could see that I kept improving. In project one I didn't do a bad job on my writing but I was pretty rusty with my sentences. Not all of them were making sense nor where my paragraphs to the level at which they should have been. When I did project two I had a little bit of an easier time because of all the practice I was getting from project 1 and the discussion boards. I hit project three right on the head and I was really surprised. In the actually proposal I didn't have and paragraphs or documents but I had to write a script which came out really good because of this SLO.

SLO-E

Analyze and describe the value of incorporating various languages, dialects and registers in your own and others’ texts.  I used SLO E in peer review, other peer's information, and in our discussion boards. I use it because I read what my peers have to say because it helps me to get a better understanding of whatever it is we were talking about that week. I was able to look at the topic in many different perspectives and angles. This helped me to get different views and opinions as well. When I did this I picked and choose which peers' perspective fell in line with my own and which ones do not. This allowed me to expand my knowledge because even though we may have similar views, I am able to expand my knowledge because sometimes my peers would think of things that would never cross my mind. This sparked a whole new thought in my head and would allow me to turn this new thought into my own perspective and allowed me to further my learning in this class.

SLO-F

Evaluate your development as a writer over the course of the semester and describe how composing in multiple genres and mediums using various technologies can be applied in other contexts to advance your goals. This SLO is a good one that I learned through this entire process not only through project 3. Although it helped the most in project three because I was able to look back on the previous work and projects I have done to help me with this one. I was able to use the research skills I learned in project 2 to really help me dig down deep and find very important things that I needed in this project, like my step by step instruction of how my solution was going to take place. Another way I was able to use this SLO was by using all these deferent mediums and finding the right one for each project. I was able to choose which ones I thought would work best for the different projects I had to do and for this project I chose a narrative power point.

SLO-G

Use writing and research as a means of discovery to examine your personal beliefs in the context of multiple perspectives and to explore focused research questions through various mediums and technologies. I believe I understand SLO G because I was able to read, watch, and do research on "The Boogeyman". Just from doing that I learn a lot of new things and the story that I never really caught on to when I first watched it. Some of those new things are realizing that the boogeyman was in Lester's head. When doing the research of the history of the boogeyman I was able to learn that he is known all around the world and in every culture. I was able to gain more knowledge of the boogeyman and what different cultures believed about him/her. With that I was able to make my own belief of who I think the boogeyman is and what his purpose is.

SLO - I

I believe project two had everything to do with SLO I. SLO I is to create a research-based argument in any medium by identifying, analyzing, and synthesizing sources. Since project 2 was all about research this is exactly what I did. I was able to come up with my topic from Enrique's Journey, which was immigration. I did research on immigration and reasons why it happens and came up with one being education. From then on I kept researching and found an academic argument of my own. Which was one reason immigration takes place is because of the better education we have in America. I was to identify where this immigration was taking place (in America). Then once I did that I could analyze why this immigration was happening. Although there are many reasons why immigration is happening, the education problem is what I really took interest in. I was then able to take all the research I found and piece it together to make an academically researched-based argument.

SLO-K

Develop agency in the classroom to assert your own position/stance on a subject with careful argument and evidence. SLO K. was fairly simply to understand and to get a good grasp of. I think that I was able to fully grasp SLO K. because I was able to develop my own position on what I believe Stephen King is trying to say or portray. Like anyone, after reading something we put our own thought and perspective in what we believe we think the reading was supposed to mean. We all have different angles or interpretation in what the author is saying. In "The Boogeyman" I took away from it that Stephen King was trying to show that Lester was the one being haunted by the boogeyman. The evidence being that he wouldn't tell anyone that the boogeyman was the one killing his kids, the deaths were considered accidents, and the Dr. turned out to be the boogeyman.  So with this I was able to take a stance on what I believed and have the evidence behind it to back it up.

SLO- H

SLO H  says,  "integrate others’ positions and perspectives into your writing ethically, appropriately, and effectively in various mediums and technologies". I was able to do this in this project because there was a lot of information I had to read and a lot of different points of views on immigration. With that being said I had to look at each point of view and which really made the most sense and which one I kind of followed along with. In this case I followed along with the fact that a lot of immigrants come to America for a better education. Finding other sources that followed along with my view was helpful for me to gain credibility and to write ethically. I was also able to be very effective with the information I found by proving what I said with graphs and charts. In the end I was able to use someone else's perspective along with mine to write a great research paper.

SLO-J

Analyze and describe the writing and research conventions of an academic field in order to understand the different ways of creating and communicating knowledge.

I believe this SLO plays a huge role in project 3 because a proposal is all about letting other people know or informing other of your knowledge about a problem. In other words you are "communicating knowledge" that you know and that you believe will help or fix the problem. This SLO also allows whoever is presenting the proposal to create the knowledge of what they believe the solution could be. I gained from this outcome because I learned how to gain all this knowledge from doing projects, research, and reading "Writing Today". After I gained this knowledge I was able to communicate it with my peers by creating different forms of communication. Such as a narrative power point, discussion boards, an academic poster board, and a blog.

SLO - L

SLO L is where we are able to evaluate the quality of the content that we are we are dealing with in a variety of ways. I believe that I was able to do this in project 2 because this was a research project and everything needed to be one hundred percent  true. When doing research I wanted to make sure I wasn't throwing in false information and making people believe things that aren't true.  I was able to chose reliable information by picking academically reviewed websites and books. Examples would be the book that I cited in my project. By using these academically reviewed citations I could tell that the quality of the information was going to be true and very credible. Having credible sources only helped me to gain credibility and helped my audience to be able to trust the information I was giving them.
